Richland Town Park

In August 2022, the Town of Richland was awarded a $233,424 grant from the NYS Office of Parks and Recreation.  This grant was for significant improvements to the Richland Hamlet Playground and for a Picnic/Fishing area at the Richland Hamlet Pond.  This project has taken much longer than originally anticipated due to DEC permitting delays, having to redo engineering several times to obtain bids that were within budget, and the removal of the decayed Hamlet water tower. We persevered and overcame most obstacles.  In 2025, we were able to make things happen.  The pond project was completed and has created a beautiful area for families to picnic, fish, or just enjoy the day. Most of the playground equipment was installed, new mulch was spread, and the pavilion was painted.  There are still a few outstanding pieces for the playground that will arrive in the Spring of 2026. Also in the Spring, some of the current parking area and the track around the playground will be repaved, and we will be installing a new basketball court.

Due to the length of the project and increasing prices, the Town applied for additional funding to help offset some of the costs.  We were able to obtain $50,000 from the CNY Community Foundation and $3,000 from Pathfinder Bank in Lacona.

The support that we have received from the Community, Volunteers, and Grant sources is greatly appreciated and we couldn’t do it without you all. The Town is very excited to see this project completed and come to fruition.
